The plot revolves around the Indian prince Samar (Salman Khan) who falls in love with an English woman Kathy (Kareena Kapoor). The film was the first Hindi movie to be extensively shot in Western Australia. The film generated a positive response from critics and was a major commercial success, grossing over ₹600 million at the box office. Young artist Aayesha Umarji worked as an extra in the movie. It is featured among the top highest-grossing Bollywood films of the 1990s as well as Salman Khan's highest-grossing films as a solo lead hero. The film won six Filmfare Awards, five IIFA Awards and two Screen Awards. Samar (Salman Khan) is the son of V. P. Singh (Anupam Kher) and Lalita Devi (Tabu). He falls in love with an English woman Kathy (Kareena Kapoor). On his wedding day, he finds out that Kathy was already married to Sameer (Ajay Devgn), his best friend. Thrown into despair by this sudden revelation, Samar becomes heartbroken but later marries Aarti (Madhuri Dixit Nene). Together they have a son, whom they name Prem. Samar and Aarti live in a small village in India with their son Prem (Master Manoj), who has been diagnosed with heart problems. After seven years, Kathy returns to her homeland in Australia because of Prem's worsening condition. Along the way she discovers that Sameer is cheating on her with another woman. She meets Samar at a train station and tells him that she still loves him but he rejects her and returns home to Aarti and Prem. Samar meets Sameer and challenges him to win back his love and suggests that she does not really love either of them but Sameer stands by Kathy. Samar learns that Prem's health has improved significantly. Aarti is overjoyed to learn about this and suggests that they adopt Kathy's son (who is still her son since Sameer had no rights to him), so he can be a part of their family. Samar agrees and they return to the hospital where they adopt a boy. After bringing the boy home, Samar realises that Kathy lied about her son being adopted because his birthdate was the same as their adopted boy.
